What is a Speedpass Key Tag?
The Speedpass Key Tag is a small hand-held device. It's only 1.5 inches long, is very lightweight, and can hang on your key ring.
Do Speedpass Key Tags expire?
Speedpass key tags do not require batteries and are powered by the signal from the Speedpass reader at the gas pump, in-store terminal, or car wash kiosk. Your Speedpass key tag will function indefinitely. However, when the credit/debit card linked to your Speedpass device expires, you must update your card expiration date online by logging into your account at www.speedpass.com. You can also update your card information by contacting the Speedpass Customer Service Center at 1-87-SPEEDPASS (1-877-733-3727). You will be sent a reminder as the card expiration date approaches.
How does Speedpass work?
Speedpass uses a radio frequency reader located in gasoline pumps, convenience store terminals, and car wash kiosks to communicate with the transponder located in your Speedpass key tag. Each device has a unique identification and security code that is transmitted to the reader when you make a purchase. Your purchase is automatically charged to the credit or debit card linked to your Speedpass device. Speedpass is safe and secure. Your credit/debit card information, preferences, and personal details are not stored in your Speedpass device, so your information is protected from unauthorized use.
What is a Speedpass Car Tag?
The Speedpass Car Tag is a small, square device that discreetly fits inside the rear window of your car, on the same side as your fuel door. Just like the Speedpass Key Tag, the Car Tag also activates the Speedpass technology. At Exxon and Mobil stations where Speedpass is accepted, you can use your car tag at all Mobil fuel pumps nationwide and at Exxon fuel pumps only in New Jersey.
What is the difference between the Key Tag and the Car Tag?
The Speedpass Key Tag is a small hand-held device that you can carry with you. It is accepted everywhere Speedpass is accepted. The Speedpass Car Tag is a small, square device that you affix to the rear window of your car. At Exxon and Mobil stations where Speedpass is accepted, you can use your car tag at all Mobil fuel pumps nationwide and at Exxon fuel pumps only in New Jersey.
How does the Speedpass-enabled Timex Watch work?
The watch is a regular Timex timepiece and the Speedpass transponder is located in the watchband, directly above the 12 o'clock position. Due to the limited read range of approximately one inch or less, position the watchband directly in front of the reader. The reader will light up only if the watchband is within one inch or less.
Speedpass-enabled Timex watches were offered to customers as part of a market test conducted by Speedpass and Timex. The market test has concluded and no new Speedpass-enabled Timex watches are available for sale at this time.
Why does the Speedpass Car Tag need to be in the rear window?
For the Speedpass Car Tag to work, it needs to be aligned to the pump you are using to refuel.
What if my fuel door isn't located on the right or left rear of my car?
If your gas cap is located under your rear license plate, you can center the Speedpass Car Tag at the bottom of the rear window and pull up to the pump on either side of your car. Or, you can place the car tag in your rear window on either one side or another, and always pull that side of your car next to the pump. If your fuel door is located in the front, you must place the car tag at the bottom of your front window.
Does the Speedpass Car Tag interfere with the rear-window defogger?
No. However, if possible, you should avoid putting your Car Tag directly on the window defogger wires.
How long does the Speedpass Car Tag battery last?
Three to five years. When you need a replacement battery, you can purchase one at most retail stores or contact Customer Service toll free at 1-87-SPEEDPASS (1-877-733-3727).
